Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy

All relationships have their ups and downs. In most cases problems and issues can be worked through without the involvement of a counsellor. However, sometimes there is a need for some assistance in working through difficulties and it is at that time that Relationship Counselling may be appropriate.

My approach to  relationship counselling is designed to promote communication and connection between the individuals involved. My client is the relationship between the couple, their unique relationship, which is an entity which they have created together, something in which they both have a stake and to which they both contribute. I have found that this is the best way in which all parties (the individuals and the relationship) can move forward.

The reasons for seeking  relationship counselling can be very varied. Sometimes the problems are difficult to identify and pin down - something is not working the way it used to. Exploration together with the support of a neutral, trained professional can help to release stuckness and enable the couple to move on.
There may clearly be a specific issue such as a need to progress from an argument, an incident or infidelity. It may be because there is a need to negotiate a way forward because of a change in circumstances such as where a sexual/physical element of the relationship is no longer possible because of a physical or medical reason.
t may be that one of the circumstances of one of the individuals has changed  (because of a change in career or approach to life)  but the individual wishes to ensure that the relationship with their partner is taken into account in a positive and supportive way.

It may be that exploration through counselling helps the couple to realise that they need to break up  - indeed the couple may already have decided to break up before starting counselling. Working with a therapist can still be beneficial in helping the individuals to manage this often very difficult and painful process and harness their resources to help them heal and move on when they are ready, Whatever the reason for seeking  relationship counselling this can be aired fully during the counselling process.

I have a Diploma in Transpersonal Integrative Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy, awarded by CCPE (Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Education, Warwick Crescent, London W2 6NE).

My usual rate is £100 for one hour of couple therapy. I am currently only working with couples online.
